I finished reading the DaVinci code, and I have to say: I liked it a lot. The shorter chapters were conducive to reading on the T and kept the story moving quickly along. The strong reliance on art history and art studies gave the book a very truthful and realistic feel, drawing me in even more. The writing style is light and easy. Plot wise, there's not a lot of fluff; the story is fast paced and moves.
Overall, I highly recommend this one. It reads quickly and lends itself to a few chapters before bed, a few on the train, and before you know it you're hooked and burning from one end to the other. Throughout I found myself guessing at the meaning of clues and riddles as I tried to figure out what was going on. With a few sharp turns at the end, there are suprises even when you think you've got it all figured out.
When you finish, let me know what you think.
I just finished this one the other day and I have to agree that it was well worth my time. I found that I couldn't seem to put it down when I read in the evening and ended up staying awake much longer than is good for humans. I thought the suspense was just right and the story flowed easily . Having been educated by the Jesuits, I was familiar with the Catholic side of the story and my wife has an interest in the Goddess side of it, so I gave the book to her and we will see what kind of discussions come from that. Thanks for the recommendation.
It's those short chapters! You think "one more, I can handle one more..." Next thing you know, it's *way* past your bed time.
I'm really glad you liked it. I'd hate to have given you a poor recommendation!
I loved the book however, have one questions. How did Lee T. know that the curator was in the PS to begin with?
Tracy, I gave my copy of the book away so I can't look it up and I can't remember who Lee was. If you remind me, I might have a better answer.
I have a copy of it at home, I will check it tonight and see if I can remember.
Has anyone finished the quest? I went to "Da Vinci Code.com" today and started the quest and I am stuck on the one with the Julius Caesar code to break. Anyone can help me?
The code spells out Robert Langdon. Put that name in the google search. You will go on from there. I'm stuck because I need the number which is in Chapter 44 but I borrowed the book from the library and now I don't have access to it!!
If anyone can give me the number I'd appreciate it.
fibonacci sequence, minus the initiating zero.
1123581321
Thanks. I got the sequence eventually but didn't think to leave off the first zero.
This book is so awesome. Although I havn't finished it yet I havn't been able to put it down !
The DaVinci maze took me about an hour and a half, during which time I also checked email, paid bills, etc.
Random answers when you're going through this (there might be something wrong here; I'm copying scribbled notes from when I went along; in the end, it's all really quite pointless anyway:
the sequence in Chapter 44 is 1133581321.
The first NY phone number leads you to www.doubleknightbooks.com
Password is Venice.
Another password is ankh.
The decoded message at
http://www.randomhouse.com/cgi-bin/robertlangdon/rl_key.cgi
is "The truth will be told in 2003" and another NY phone number is 212-782-9932. In the end, you get a congratulatory message from Dan Brown.
If you like spending your time on marketing gimmicks, then this game's for you. Just be aware that there is no payoff ... which is probably a metaphor for the book.
I finished this book in 12 hours! That was a day well spent! This is probably one of the best books I have read in a long time, as I find I am actually looking to learn so much more......
I loved the book!Couldnt put it down. Also read Angels and Demons. Dan Brown is the best.!
i finished the quest it was fun the "reward" was really lame but the process was really fun.technically i did not go all the way through i kinda cheated but it was still really fun i hoped he does another on-line puzzle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
somebody help! what is the enigmatic sculpture - 1 degree north of the location (after you've done the coordinates)??? I've tried everything

I finished the book last week and i just did the code. It was so much fun! I hope Dan Brown comes out with another book with Robert Langdon in it! In the recorded message at the end of the code it hinted at another book so i hope there is one.
what do you do when you get to the bank? how do you log on?
do I really have to send an email to questions@robertlangdon.com??
so, how did you come up with e pluribus unum?
Okay, you people who put the answers up are really ruining it for those who are trying to figure things out. Better yet, put up hints where to find the answers or how to figure them out. I never did personally figure out where the password came from, but someone posted the answers so I didn't bother any more. The Ankh was hard to figure out, because I had no idea what the symbol was called, so again I looked at the solution.
Perhaps we could provide hints as to why the password was Venice, and how one is to determine what the Ankh symbol is called.
What a joke! I cannot believe all the innacuricies this book claims as historical fact.
For Example:
Calling the Nag Hammadi texts "unaltered" gospels is like reading the official Soviet histories as objective fact – complete with leading figures airbrushed out of the photos. TDC claims that the New Testament is simply the result of a male-dominated church leadership inventing Christianity in order to control the Roman empire and subsequent world history and then to oppress women and repress goddess-worship.
In TDC the heretics are the heroes and the apostles are unindicted co-conspirators. The Great Satan is Emperor Constantine, who, it is claimed, never even became a Christian, but knew a good marketing plan when he saw it. Constantine supposedly called the Council of Nicaea in 325 in order to invent the idea of Christ's divinity (and celibacy) and then turn out the heretics, thus burying the real story of Jesus (and Mary Magdalene) forever. "It's all about power," one character explains. That's why Constantine "upgraded Jesus' status."
And the Council of Nicaea? There, TDC reveals, the Emperor led the bishops to declare Jesus as the Son of God by a vote. "A relatively close vote at that," the text elaborates.
The real Council of Nicaea adopted a creed in order to reject the heretical teachings of one Arius, who taught that Jesus was not of the same substance as the Father. Brown weaves fact and fiction with such recklessness that the average reader will assume all these claims to be factual.
The Council of Nicaea did not "invent" the divinity of Jesus. This was already the declaration of the Church, claimed by Jesus himself and proclaimed by the apostles. The council boldly claimed this as the faith of the Church and named Arianism as a heresy and Arians as heretics. A close vote? Only two out of more than 300 bishops failed to sign the creed. Not exactly a cliff-hanger.
The Nag Hammadi texts as the real gospels? Not on your life. The texts are easily identifiable as gnostic literature peripheral to the Church. The early Church did not establish the canon (official set of New Testament writings) at Nicaea, though a general consensus was already evident at that gathering. The New Testament writings were recognized and set apart because of their authorship by one of the apostles and by their clearly orthodox content – in harmony with the other New Testament writings as recognized by the churches spread throughout the Greco-Roman world.
Much more could be considered, but the main issue is this: How plausible is such a conspiracy? The threshold of credibility for this conspiracy requires us to believe that the entire structure of Christian theology is a sinister plot to fool the masses. Further, we must believe that the leaders of this conspiracy knew that Jesus was not the Son of God, but were willing to die for this cause by the millions. As C. S. Lewis once argued, people might be willing to be martyrs for a lie if they are innocently deceived, but very few will die for what they know to be a lie.
Credibility for this conspiracy requires belief in the claim that the truth, known by millions, has been kept secret from the world until now. Specifically, until the release of "The Da Vinci Code."
The book was great! I finished up in a few days, thank goodness for the holidays. Also, for the people who put up the answers to the Riddles and such on the Davinci Code Website...pooh on you..I was trying to figure them out and then I stumbled upon them...and of course I said forget it then.
just need help looking for the next clue in the puzzle. Great Book By the Way
I just finished The DaVinci Code.
An exceptional read!
Provacative and fast paced. Dan Brown's blend of fact and fiction is superbly crafted.
I highly recommend this one!
I just loved this book. I have been telling all of the re-borns for years that 4 gospels were choosen out of many...so what happened to the others?
I love books that ask "WHY?" and "HOW?" that drive the Church crazy...for they want you to take everything as gospel. Here here to this book!
Dr. Zak...WHO said that TDC is "driving the Church crazy?"
I just finished reading this book yesterday. It is an outstanding book because it is thought provoking.
One question, I'd like to use the fibonacci sequence to calculate dimensions of geometric patterns. I'm not very well experienced in math and I wondered if anyone might be able to help me understand how to use the fibonacci sequence to calculate smaller and smaller components? Such as the vitruvian man and the fact that the measurement from the hip to the floor is exactly *what* the distance from the knee to the floor. I didn't quite understand how this worked.
Jane
I congratulate Mr Brown not only on a very well written book but for the time he must have taken in doing his research. Everything he states in his book has much validity. Great reading especially for anyone with a theological background.
To Laughing at you.....I read your review of the Da Vinci Code with great interest. I do however disagree with you on quite a few remarks. Jesus never declared himself to be the Christ, he never declared he was divine not even the Son of God but in fact "the Son of Man". The Council of Nicea was gathered and presided by the Emperor Constantine to clarify and develop once and for all who Jesus was. You are right about the opposition of Arianism, but Arian was declared a heretic until AFTER the council made it's decision (at the request of Constantine) that Jesus was the Christ, divine, the Son of God. The Creed is an elaboration on the original Apostles Creed which was in actuality a "code" for Christian initiation in an unchristian world. Sorry, but Dan Brown in right on in his book on just about everything. Your points are worth debate. Rev. Harry Birkenhead
Hi,
I couldn't pass gate 3.I solved the question and go to http://www.relic-bay.com and write here LSPDV but gate 3 don't clack..
helppp
I personally want to THANK those who shared the answers to the challenge - I was going crazy! I loved this book also and enjoy reading your comments.
I'm stuck on Da Vinci's given name, i.e.:
My friend, I bid you welcome to this quest. Before we start, I pose a painless test. To prove you're worthy of this noble game. Please type (with care) Da Vinci's given name.
Please help!
da vinci's given name is leonardo
"LIONARDO"... I believe.
Whoops, I was wrong. The answer in the quest IS "Leonardo"... I guess they didn't check their facts. Leonardo Da Vinci was christened "Lionardo" and was first listed as a local painter under that name. Oh well, who pays attention to details?... :)
Hey "Laughing At You",
I could take your facts more seriously if you spelled "inaccuracies" correctly. Ironic, eh?
Just now finished reading DVC - and have to say although it was a good read, the characters were week and it was the theme that kept me gripped. I have been studying or two years the history of the Sinclair family, the history of freemasonry in scotland, and specifically the involvement of the Knights Templar with both the Sinclair family and freemasonry - these are themes that give a better understanding of the "flight of the Grail". I started my research by reading The Hiram Key, which I recommend strongly as a fundmental anchor to those who are looking to continue in more depth with the themes raised by DVC. I was disppointed that DVC made no mention of Rennes le Chateau in France, and not a single comment on the Black Madonnas, of which many have appeared, and exist still, in churches in Europe - the statues supposedly of the Virgin Mary and Infant Jesus are actually the Magdalene with the Infant Sarah
Perhaps Dan Brown will be covering these points in DVC 2.
Oops - Week, should be weak
Here is a site for those who want more detail on the Priory de Sion, and the activities of Mr Planchard - http://smithpp0.tripod.com/psp/idx.html
I first learned about the golden proportion in an old school film, Donald Duck in Mathmagic Land. It explained it so clearly, the proportion of the human body, the penta shapes in nature.......
The Da Vinci Code was what I consider great fiction. It had just enough historical fact and adventure to keep me captivated from the first to the last page.
I was fascinated by the ideas and suggestions about the history of religion, but what fascinates me more is the response from many devout Christians. It amazes me that a group that considers themselves so open and loving would criticize Dan Brown in the way that they have been. It seems to me that a fiction book shouldn’t be able to shake a persons faith in quite the way that this one seems to.
I am also interested in the fact that half the articles I have read state that his facts are wrong and half the articles I have read support his facts and compliment his research. I guess, ultimately what it comes down to is that when dealing with history we can look at what we have left and then we make educated guesses.
Regardless of if his research is accurate and his guesses are correct, he wrote an excellent book. Any book that can keep you thinking after you put it down and can raise this much controversy is worth reading.
HAS ANBODY READ ANGELS AND DEMONS? I THOUGHT IT WAS BETTER THAN THE CODE
This is an awsome book, as stated by others, why did a book of fiction ruffel so many feathers. If Dan Browns therioes are correct, kudos to him for enlightening those (me) to the possibilites that the decendents of Jesus may still be walking among us. How many of you cried at the end of the book?? I know I did!! I want more... thanks Dan.
"Aces"...
I cried so hard that my husband thought someone had died...
"beth" i've gotten to gate 3, now i'm really confused, not sure what to do next.... questions@robertlangdon.com
The DaVinci Code is a great read. Dan Brown writes good fiction. The historical inaccuracies, however, are many. For the sake of space, I'll mention just the one that to me was the most glaring. The suggestion that until the Council of Nicea Christians didn't believe in the divinity of Jesus is not only false, it is so easily refuted it's hard to believe that even a person with Dan Brown's bias could put it into his novel without at some stage realizing he'd made an easily falsifiable claim. And he puts the claim in the mouth of a character who is supposed to be a world-renowned historian! Despite the fact that some pre-Nicea groups identifying with Jesus' legacy didn't agree with the view that he was God in the flesh, there are books and books of pre-Nicea documents in which church leaders frequently reference Christ's divinity. Just get a copy of any edition of the AnteNicene Fathers and check it out (the prefix "Ante" meaning "before," in case the point isn't clear). In Philippians 2:5-11, written by Paul within a few decades of Jesus death (and believed by most scholars to be based on a hymn dated even earlier) there is a clear reference to Jesus pre-existing in the form of God and then becoming human. Many other New Testament texts could be mentioned, but the point is that you don't have to be a historian to check this stuff out. As far as the New Testament later being "doctored" or altered to fit the theology of Nicea, that claim shows an ignorance of textual criticism, the science in which texts are compared in order to determine dating, original wording, etc. The New Testament books as they already existed were part of the evidence the churchmen at Nicea took into account in their careful deliberations. All of this is easily documentable, and so it is particularly inexcusable that seemingly educated people pass on a distorted version before doing some simple homework. Having said that, I still think Dan Brown has written a good thriller. Just enjoy it as fiction; nothing more.
One more point. In the early controversies over Jesus' nature, most of the teachers who came to be judged heretical held views that denied not Jesus' divinity, but his full humanity. In other words, the idea among early Christians that Jesus was in some sense uniquely divine was so widespread, that many of them had a hard time accepting that he was truly human. Those representing the apostolic heritage(those who are the "bad guys" in Brown's novel), actually went to pains to refute those who would deny that Jesus Christ was a real human being. Given this fact, it is bizarre that anyone would claim that no one before Nicea held a belief in Jesus' divinity. Whether one accepts the notion that Jesus' could be both fully human and fully divine, the fact is that such a view was prominent soon after his death and was ultimately officially endorsed by the Council of Nicea after being challenged by a man named Arius, whose teachings created the controversy that necessitated the calling of the council. Some have argued that when Jesus was called divine in the first and century, it was a mistake, and that issue can be debated. But to say that it wasn't believed until the early fourth century is to demonstrate such an ignorance of basic sources as to not merit being taken seriously.
Where do I begin this webquest? Not the one that begins w/ Leonardo's name. The one with all the websites and such? I just finished the book.
Thanks.
BTW...Angels and Demons was a much better book tha TDC.
It's fun to see how this book gets people's juices going, depending on what their biases are!! I love the ones that nitpick about when something happened, like whether some view was all of a sudden imposed at the Council of Nicea. I think the Westar Institute, with its many scholars including Barbara Thiering, puts it nicely when it said that it was at that time that the Constantine's representatives put the crunch on all the other competing understandings of who Jesus was and condemned all but the future "church's" position to heresy later subject to repeated Inquisitions!! I'm so glad this history is out in the open now and getting people going with Dan Brown's flair.
Margec,
It's nice to be one of the ones you "love." As for the challening of the crux of Brown's argument being called "nitpicking," that's a funny response. I have a great idea for a thriller, based on fact: it's about how a well-financed organization called the Westar Institute self-selects scholars already committed to a certain conclusion to publish "findings" based on discredited and inconsistent methods. Some of the original members of the "Jesus Seminar," as the group is called, later distance themselves from the group and critique its methodology, but they're not as marketing savvy or well-financed, so their views don't get well read (except by other actual reputable scholars). So far what I've described is fact, but Dan Brown could dress it up and put an assination attempt and heavy conspiracy overtones in there to give it more intrigue. As for the history now getting "out in the open," the basic facts have been there all along, and religious scholars have been in the forefront of examining them and publishing them with nothing to hide. Again, since it's not sensationalistic and conspiracy-theory laden, their work has tended to be read only by people with the inerest and patience to read the kind of scholarship that passes the test of serious research methods and review. If people have personal issues related to bad past experiences with religion, that's unfortunate, and maybe they can work through it with a good therapist. But they shouldn't let their bitterness toward a religious institution cause them to attribute malice and deceit where there is none, or try to pass off shoddy "research" as anything other than what it is.

Just finished this book about an hour ago and thought it was fabulous. Im definitely going out to buy myself a copy.
Once I have the answer for gate #3, where do I type it?
what do i do after i go to robert langdon's web site? It just says he knows your task
great book....now how do i keep going on this puzzle?
I have a question for all of you who read the book. I have not read the book yet, but today my teacher gave me a bunch of letters in sequence and it has somethign to do with the divince code. Can any of you figure out what this means...
CEQPG S SEFG SI SOAPU AZOEF
the only really hint he gave was that there were three incryptions... I'm not sure if he meant that the DiVince code was one of the three or if there were three incryptions within the divince code. Please help if you want to try a question.
O and I also know that the answer to the code is "30". I need to know why though. Please email me if you try it and find anything.
hey i am solving the 1st quest and i am stuck on the last gate where it asks 4 writing CRYPTOS on it but i cannot write anywhere!
help!!
Mr.Funk:
i can tell you nave some really strong opinions but just because you think they are true doesnt mean that they are...think about it, you are accusing dan brown of writing something that isnt truth but you are posative other books you've read are true?? i am just questioning your reasoning, i dont understand.
Angels and Demons is very good, but kind of hokey at the end. The best of the four by far, in my opinion, is DVC with Digital Fortress coming in a close second. Looking forward to the next novel!
im 14 yrs, and finished DVC for the 2nd time in a week a couple hours ago. This is a great book, and i am impatiantly awaiting Angels and Demons from my friend. Cant wait to read it. I finished both quests, and had a blast... everyone should try them. Is there really a number phi? i looked it up online, but all i got was the 21st letter of the greek alphabet. does anyone know? i even asked my 8th grade math teacher, but he hadnt heard of it...
I just finished the book last night. Great book to read, but honestly, I was raised in a Christian home and attended a christian school...Do all of you honestly believe that if any of what this book states was true then why were we not taught this in school? I knew of missing scriptures and that the Bible its self was out of order. I also heard that Jesus could have possibly been married, but why do they not teach this if this is not true and what is the big deal with keeping it a secret, Mary M. is dead and if there is any family left then do you all really think anyone would honestly mess with them? Seriously? I think if this was all true, then come out of the closet, it is all very nice to know of the real person we have been praying to all these years? Does that sound so harsh? Teach us something we don't already suspect or know of? Email me if you want, in the subject area, just put comment so I know who you are...
email me at seasonskids@aol.com
has anyone broken the code and typed in the prophecy? if so, what is the answer?
thanks!
Amanda
where do you go after you go to robert langdons address and i clicked on the comments page but i dont know where to go after that
How come the "quest" talks about several gates, but you only go through one. The 2nd involving the Caesar code, solves the puzzle going to web sites and receiving emails. Am I missing something simple to continue through the gates?
Amanda review the simbols and what sourronds the letters in the code
Very fast read and I found it interesting. I'm not Catholic but I found the anti-Catholic tone disturbing. But worse is the throwing out of statements as being facts when they are not even remotely close to the known truth. So enjoy it for what it is, good fiction. But very few of the items stated as fact happened and many of the dates are flat out wrong. If you do any serious historical study, you would find this out.
History Buff
has anybody been on this site recently? because if anyone needs help I'm glad to give it
The book is fantastic - impossible to put down once you start it. I also love the "nitpicking" on earlier posts - as if winning the argument about what happened 2,000 years ago will make your god (or God) real. We can't get two reliable witnesses to agree as to what happened at traffic accident ten minutes earlier, yet you're so confident about millenia-old second-hand writings based on decade-old hearsay.
Does it Mean that Robert Langdon was dreaming the whole time?? IS that what they mean in the epilogue?..This really confused me
what happens after you get to relic bay and find the parchment...either i'm lost or this game is not working...
HELP I WENT To the dude's site and i saw the parchment but what is the prophecy and where do i type it HELP
TO read without Bias is a very hard thing to do. I know in my heart that nothing is what it seems. You find the truth within yourself and you will begin to discover the truths of the World.
what's the answer to the question after da vinci's given name? The book was awesome by the way!!!!
that answer is the last supper. but i don't know the next one
CAN SOMEONE ANSWER ME ABOUT THE END OF THE BOOK..WAS ROBERT LANGDON DREAMING THE WHOLE TIME???????
The third clue is written in Greek. Use this to figure out the letters. http://www.ibiblio.org/koine/greek/lessons/alphabet.html
More fun to decode it yourself.
Very cool book. I can't wait for the movie to come out. Ron Howard is a great choice for director and I really hope they get Russell Crowe for the main character. The dude used to have the best mullet in the world! You've got to respect that. ;) This is a book that I think will translate to film very well.
I'm at the relic-bay site and i can't figure out what to do next. Please help.
Langdon wasn't dreaming. It was more like, later he woke up with the answer. All of it happened, but he let it sit so then he just kinda woke up with the answer.
omg what the answeer?????/
what is history but a search for the underlying fact? who is committed to and who can be regarded as responsible to discern fact from perception? Where does fact lay in regard to subject matter that has been under prioritized scrutiny for millenia?
Brown's amalgamation of some of the most commonly propogated statements on the adaptive state of moral governing law makes for great reading. It hardly stands to break down an entire belief system. Belief exists on an individual basis, and on a singular longing. The perfection in this world - mathematic symmetries and cyclical penchants of organisms - tangible adn abstract cannot be denied. It adds to the need for a dense network of structures to answer to teh basics of human need - progression, belief, reason, structure, amongst others.
I still believe in making wishes. There is no fact - there is no proof. It gives me momentary joy.
(And when all is said and done, i enjoyed the book. I still can't stand teh characters' intellegentsiastic stance every time a new clue is decoded. It's the equivalent to my watching 'jeapoardy!' - "F*in! I knew that! WHy didn't I see that???")
Thanks Queen..I really appreciate it.
Great book. I've read other books that verify what Dan Brown wrote, but we have to remember what it says in the cover of the DVC, It's "A Novel" You don't have to believe any or all of it. Just enjoy. If you want to believe, I suggest doing some research. Facinating stuff.
Oh BTW where did they come up with the pasword Venice??
PS the site wouldn't let me spell pasword correctly. It contains the word a*s
Never mind. I found where Venice came from. Try e-mailing Jonas
Guys and Gals,
Deception Point is an awesome book and I recommend it to all DVC lovers! Dan Brown has a very creative mind. I would love to think like him!
This was a very entertaining book, and I enjoyed it very much . . . especially the first 2/3. The end and the characters unravelled a good bit in the end. In fact, I found so much promise in characters like Silas and Bezu, that I was very disappointed that they were so weakly discarded towards the end. This flaw of introducing interesting characters who wane away to become quite dull did not stop me from enjoying the book.
The story moved quickly and I most enjoyed the artistic and historical discussions. The historical inaccuracies (and stretching of the truth) advance the story. This is a bit of fiction. I suppose the only "danger" is that people who read the book and take it as "gospel" could be misled.
If there's one message in the book that you can't escape, it's think for yourself. The book was thought-provoking and strenghtened my Catholic faith.
Both Angels and Demons and Da Vinci Code had Robert Langdon and both involved the church. But for Dan Browns next Langdon novel, it's set in Washington D.C. What on earth could possibly be in DC? Old cities like Rome or Paris I could under stand cuz those have more of a history. But DC is only about 200 years old. I am really looking forward to reading it and finding out historical things of Washington. Plus, when it comes out, it'll be cool to go around DC with the book pointing out things.
To those of you who are reading this book and "nitpicking" as you do it, I suggest you just sit down and take this book in as a piece of fiction. I am 15 years old, and I have just finished the book. I grew up in a Catholic household and went to a Catholic school. This book has brought new ideas to my mind, and has just changed my perspective on things. Stop nitpicking and just enjoy the book and Dan Brown's wonderful writing.
what is the answer to the third gate regarding the caesar's code and the "letters-twenty-five-a-perfect-square"?
i'm stuck on the fourth gate. can someone help?
thanks
i've figured out the caesar code, but i don't know what to do now. i've also gotten to langdon's web-site, but i can't determine what to do next. p.s.- jill the answer to the caesar code is- www.robertlangdon.com. (this is where i got stuck)
Huge news people!,
Dan Brown is writing a new Robert Langdon book starting off where DVC left off. He predict it will come out in Summer 2005. If you want more info. go to www.danbrown.com. then go to interviews.
Thanks.
do i actually have to call the number on the e-mail to M. marie denarnaud?
This book is garbage. I could barely make it through due to all of the extemporaneous exposition. How often do you have a conversation where someone sits and explains and explains and explains while you sit and nod and say wow. That is basically Sophie's character.
Mr Brown tries to trick you with his smoke and mirrors and simply untrue conspiracy theories into thinking this is a good read.
And why is it that the characters become really dumb all of a sudden at intervals. Gee what could the 10 digit number be? Hmmm, where did a ten digit number figure prominently in the story?
And what on earth could this strange writing be. I own copies of Da Vinci's secret diaries, yet when I see his exact writing style on a rose inlayed box, I'm just stumped.
I hate to refer to Indiana Jones here, but, as with archaeology, in Art History, there are very few "facts."
The fourth gate is the relic bay site. the link comes in the email. When u recieve the email, clik the relic bay link then search LSPDV. you'll know wat to do next
The third gate- www.robertlangdon.com
and don't call the number- just go to
doubleknightbooks.com Clik on Jonas Faulkman continue from there
DVCgarbage,
This part of the site is for people who actually like the book so... go away if you have nothing good to say. Oh and i'd like to see you write a book like that!
Thank you
Dissenting opinions are not only allowed, but also encouraged. Who wants to have a discussion where everyone says, "I agree," "Me too!" "Yes!" That leads nowhere and encourages no further thought or discussion. Personally, although I liked DVC, I think that Brown's other work is all the same. Angels and Demons, Digital Fortress, they're DVC with brands and code replacing a trunk full of documents.
I appreciate the freedom afforded by jfournier to allow me to dissent on this book. I find it very unfortunate that this book is so popular. The misinformation presented is a genuine disservice to anyone interested in Art History or History in general. If you were to take a university level course in art history, you would soon learn how misleading Mr. Brown is being. Even in interviews he has back-pedalled on how "accurate" his work is.
On another note, I don't understand how they will be able to make a movie of any merit out of this book. It'll be all flashbacks and history lessons with very little story. And can you make a movie that is so anti-catholic? I wonder what Mel Gibson has to say about this book.
The book was an okay read. I don't think it was ever intended to be more than a work of fiction, but as with anything written on religion, controversy abounds!
Negatives for me in the book were as someone else said interesting characters that go nowhere, superfluous details that never get resolved (like the hidden M's in the Last Supper - mentioned for no apparent reason), and for the continuity issues. Think about it - Langdon is awoken by a phone call at 12:31 AM after he's had an hours sleep. It is non-stop after that for what - another 6-7 hours? No one pees, no one sleeps, no one eats anything substantial and everyone is in full possession of their mental faculties (except for those brief moments when they are brain dead - what's the account number...sheesh). By the end of the book he had been up for two straight days with only one hour of sleep and no sign of sleep deprivation. What a man!
Even so, I did enjoy the premise of the book. Being Catholic (and a reasonably knowledgeable one at that) I could take umbrage at the portrayal of the church, but I've decided that it stands as a testament to how fascinating and rich a faith it really is. Were it any less, what would there be to write about?
do i have to call the number at the end of the maze just to hear the recoded message? what do i have to do? pls help..
Has anyone gotten the prophecy or are ya'll just bluffing?
after you get to the relicbay site with the lspdv paper, what do you do???
"Me"-
No doubt that it is a work of fiction... but if you are so inclined as to point out the superfluous details as the M's in The Last Supper, what would you be saying if Brown had chosen to write a chapter on Mr. Langdon's experience in the Men's room? And as for the sleep thing- have you ever been on such an adrenaline rush that you do not feel tired? Plus, do you think that the policemen who are chasing them are going to put their search on hold for a few hours so Robert can catch some Z's? I think not.
Also, they did eat while they were on the plane trip to London. Maybe it wasn't substantail, but it doesn't seem they had time to stop by Mickey D's. Or maybe they didn't have the cash. i'm sure they wouldn't want to use a credit card and let the police know where they were.
If a 14 year-old could figure these things out... well I was hoping that adults could.
Okay, so I'm at www.doubleknightbooks.com, so where do i gofrom there? The site won't let me click on Jonas faukman, so I'm totally stuck. Help please!
Awesome Book! I picked it up at 6am one day, thinking a would read a few chapters before school, then ended up skipping clas and finishing it that night!
However, I have to agree with "Me" on a few points. The account number for instance, they were so smart and creative with figuring out other parts of the Grandfather's message, but they could not put two and two together and see what the account number was? I mean gosh, where else have they seen any numbers related to the Grandfather's message?
And also, APPLE for goodness sakes! I guessed it the second I finished reading the clue! HELLO! Fruit bearing seeds?! I don't know much about Newton, but I've heard the phrase "Newton's Apple" countless times throughout school. Five letters? Come on! They figured out SOFIA with this long process about codex's and such, that only people of their experience would know how to do, but they couldnt possibly think of APPLE?
I agree with "Marie" about the sleep thing, there were times when Langdon talked about how exhausted he was, then something would happen and he would be jolted awake. They didnt really have time to sleep with the police chasing them. And if they did go rest, wouldnt you think they were stupid for wasting time sleeping when they were being chased?
I wish the hidden M thing would have been explained better too. It's not related to the topic, so why put it in there? To make the reader see that there are more things besides clues for the Holy Grail? But the reader is not interested on things other than the Holy Grail, because that is what the story is about! So why tease us with something else that is off topic?
And what about the tracking device on the Armored Truck? Its like 'duh', an important bank that holds priceless valuables wouldn't have some sort of tracking device for its trucks? They go through other precautiouns with the drivers, you would think the characters could have figured there would be some sort of device, and thought of a way to ditch the truck and find a different mode of transportation, b/c of how clever they were with the soap, and the taxi and train before!
It's like these characters are so smart, the have gone to the best schools, have careers dependant on their knowledge, they can solve the most complicated riddles, yet can't think of APPLE as the pasword? I realize that the drama with The Teacher would not have happened if they figured out the pasword, but if Dan Brown spent so much time researching and writing this book, why couldnt he think of a smarter way to present this part of the book?
I just loved the book so much, that it disappointed me when things like the account number and the APPLE took credibility away from the characters. They are supposed to be smart! Dan Brown set it up that way! So why is it taking so long to think of the most simple things! It was just so aggrivating!
Obviously I kept reading, and still loved it. I just have to ask WHY? Why make your fantastic characters act stupid and let down the reader, only to pick up again with other details to regain the reader's trust? Did anyone else feel this way?
And to all you "nitpickers" out there, the book is a NOVEL; it is FICTION. The facts are added for emphasis, for effect, and make it so much more interesting! This is a work of fiction that offers an explanation to known facts, that otherwise have none. And if you say they do, then realize it is a DIFFERENT explanation and give it a rest. Why do you care so much about what other people believe? Its like you have to explain to other people how wrong they are, just to convince yourself that you are right.
So here are my questions for readers out there: Does anyone know more about these mysterious M's? Were you dissappointed with the "smart" characters? And why, if Brown is right, were Catholics taught that Jesus was "...Born of the Virgin Mary and became man..." but being married and having a kid was so wrong? And why, if Brown is wrong, havent we been allowed to excavate Roslyn Chapel, or the Louve for that matter, to see? And what is your explanation for all the codes, clues and secrecy then? thanks
The reason Christians jumped on Brown is because Brown stated that the book was completely accurate, etc. If he would have said..."hey, this book is fiction"...I don't believe anyone would have confronted him.
Can someone help me out here. Im kinda confused about the epilogue..did it really happen or was it just a dream....i really need to know the answer. oh and pls state y or y not...email me or visit my homepage...
Can someone please tell me where to type in "Robert Langdon" in gate two of the puzzle? I figured out it was his name, but not sure where to type it.
Thanks!
If you figured the right answer you should be able to find the place to do it.
It should say
W T R G O
W R T D T
W O L O C
D B A N O
O E N D M
jUST READ ALL LETTERS STARTING AT 'W' AND GOING DOWN.
Hey Megan
First, send an email to the address for Jonas Faukman, when you get the answer, it'll help you keep on going with the puzzle. Then click on the 'Enter Web' symbol to the left of the names and use the information from the answer above (to your email), if you get stuck again, take a look at www.robertlangdon.com again.
Good luck!
Just finished the book, stumbled on this site and felt compelled to participate. I have a lot of catching up to do with all the above posts, so this one’s a long one!
In the movies, directors will tell you that if the audience notices something as small as a misplaced item in the background from one camera shot to the next, then they aren't "into" the story and you have lost them. Enjoy the story and don't focus on the little things... they will drive you crazy! To comment on some things I've read above...
How many action movies have you seen that shows the characters sleeping, eating and going to the bathroom? Especially one that takes place in a relatively short timeframe (only a day, I think... or was it two?). Nobody really cares to know if he likes onions on his Royal w/ Cheese and how solid his “movements” are.
How many times in your life have you had a "duh" moment where you can't figure something out? You finally ask for help and when your friend points out the obvious to you, you have a "duh" moment. Having the ability to solve difficult puzzles but missing obvious, easier puzzles does not seem so unrealistic to me. Especially under stress. (being in a puzzle solving job myself, I understand the DUH factor). Same goes for APPLE. Some folks complain that the characters don't realistically show fatigue. Couldn't the fact that more obvious puzzles at the end of the book are not easily solved be a sign of fatigue?
At first, I thought the same thing about the tracking device in the truck. Hellloooooo… dump the truck and get something else! But, it can also be explained as another thing that is obvious in hindsight, but when your main focus is to get away, you may not necessarily realize the little details like that.
And the backwards writing on the box: yes he owns copies of Da Vinci's secret diaries, but the writing is not "his exact writing style" as stated above. Yes it was backwards, but it was not in Da Vinci's handwriting, so it is not necessarily obvious at first sight.
I didn't think twice about the hidden "M". I as.sumed The Last Supper "M" signified Mary Magdalene. Considering the discussion was also about Mary Magdalene being the real person next to Jesus, I'm sure Dan Brown figured that the significance of the hidden "M" was obvious and didn't need to be explained in detail.
As for the "nitpickers"... calm down... take a deep breath. Your church will still be there on Sunday (or Easter/Christmas if that's the next time you'll see it ;^) I love how defensive the religious folks get when there is anything that attempts to debunk anything about their religion. As.suming that there is one truth, the sole fact that there are so many religions with different beliefs means that most religions are probably wrong. I’m Catholic, BTW.
As for the art history... the topics mentioned in the book have been discussed and debated for ages by many of scholars. And last time I checked, nobody has interviewed Da Vinci to ask him what he meant. So the conclusions drawn by this book are no worse (or better, for that matter) than any conclusion drawn by the myriad of websites devoted to debunking the statements in The Da Vinci Code.
Did I miss something? I love a good discussion.
Oh yeah... NOOO!!!!!! He did not dream the whole thing? Did you stop reading at that point or something? It continues on to say that he had been sleeping for much of the past 2 days (recovering from the fatigue that some folks say wasn't presented in the story) in the Paris hotel he told Sophie he was going to return to. He was awakened by a thought he had that solved the puzzle he had in his mind. There is another reference later on about the fact that he had been at the Louvre just days ago, and now the puzzle has led him back.
It is always interesting that the Church is threatened by anything close to the truth. Galileo and his efforts earned him an excommunication. The Church is so insecure that they co-opt the so-called pagan rites into their own services in order to get people to follow them. I am not Christian, though I was raised as such. I know the bible almost word for word, after being force-fed it for 18 years. I have waited for someone to begin the long process of breaking down the stranglehold the church has on public discourse. Now we have begun that process, and it is fun to think that a fictional book is what has begun the process. I love the fact that priests and reverends are now scrambling to find scraps of anything that might be used to debunk the obvious. The christian faith was the "winner" in history, so it was so easy to cover up the facts. The church was the only power during the Dark Ages. Talk about having your way with the historical record. The Dark Ages are very aptly named. Keep knowledge out of the hands of the public.... you can't trust them to follow after that. That is why I am glad that Dan is moving on to the Freemasons next. The founding fathers were men enlightened by the Age of Reason. The symbology of the Freemasons truly hide the truth that they saw danger in the church. I urge all of you to begin your own search for the truth. As you go deeper than the sound bites of religious leaders, you will begin to see that the church is just a house of cards... waiting for that gust of wind to blow it down.
anybody know what to do with the phone number type thing at the end of the original puzzle thing. its at the page with the 6 gates at the top. im kinda stuck, so any help would be great.
thanks!
Great site guys... Keep up the good work :)
Wow I just completed both the quests. They were pretty tough, but by just concentrating on the details and re-reading the words and descriptions over and over and over... its not too bad. Heres a clue for the last gate tho, since I had some problems with that one and its a visual puzzle. Look at the shape of the boxes and the placement of the dots and you'll see what letter goes where!!!
Oh and thanx to this site for helping me to figure out what to do with the web address, I wasnt sure if i was supposed to send an e-mail or what!!! Not that I was cheating... I had a masive headache.
oh an another thing I just realized, I couldnt post my original letter b/c "masive headache" when spelled correctly contains the word a**. Questionable content? Give me a break.
I'm really disappointed to find out that many adults didn't solve even the first question of the test. I'm a Mexican 13 year-old and I have managed until the end all by myself. I did a lot of research and finished both tests, the original and the new one. Please use your common sense and wit a little bit more.
hi! i just played Uncover the code and the original and also have read the book. (it rocks by the way) and i wanted to know, how did you get the answers from the bank website (can you only get the answer if you call? i can't cos i live in singapore!) and how did you get the answer for the Uncover The Code from... kryptos onward? i played by just typing in the answers posted here... hee hee. yeah, can someone email me to tell me how you got the answers? THANKS!!!
I've finished the book, and loved it. I've finished both quizzes and loved them too! (I did them by myself, by the way. Instead of asking for answers, googling for key words works well). Now I want to know if there are more quizzes like the Brown's out there on the web. If anyone knows of any, could they please let me know? Thanks!
And for those of you who live in another country, like me (France) you can email instead of calling. But, before I hand over the addresses, you must first crack the code! For the original challange: jk@bntktfmdlibscaaoegodounukhoom
and the second: qitrgouortdtenolocssbanotaendm
Woops, my mistake, the second code is for the question that comes first in the second challenge and you use the first code later. So it'll be qitrgourt... before jk@bntkt...
Right, promise that's all.
I'm disappointed, Mr. Brown. You promised me the Grail and gave me a triangular prism. Angels & Demons delivered so much more.
Of course, in The DaVinci Code (which wasn't as much a "mind-bending code hidden in the works of Leonardo DaVinci" as much as that of Jacques Sauniere) I did find myself rethinking religion and religious doctrine. While I had been a mildly religious Christian, I am now a fervent worshiper of Mary Magdalene and the Sacred Feminine. Behold the Book of Phillip, that it may forever change your life, unbeliever. :P
All in all, I liked the book. as much, as much, as much. oops (blush)
what does the final message from the author say when you call the212 782 9932 phone #?
don't want to call long distance, but i didn't come all this way for nothing.....
thnx
jordosbaloney@hotmail.com
I'm from belgium and I don't want to call long distance either - can anyone tell us where to go from there ? what is told you when you call ?
ok, the final message is basically dan brown saying congratulations and that he's hard at work on robert langdon's next adventure.
by the way (and this was my favorite part of the whole thing) when you get to robertlangon's secret webpage and it says that the pasword is his favorite symbol and it's on his webpage, i tried a little trick to figure it out.....
when you right-click on any image and select "save as", it will try to save it as however the person who designed the page saved it as (like if i was to post a picture of myself in aspen, i'd save the pic as "meinaspen"). so basically, i tried it with that symbol. you know what they have the image saved as? it's "nicetrypal". LOLLOL.
it may be pathetic, but that totally made my day :)
also, you can figure out "venice" because there is a picture of robert langon and whatshisface at mardi gras in venice on robertlangon.com..... there's probably a more obvious route than that though.
ps it wouldn't let me spell "pasword" correctly because of "questionable content" relating to the fact that an "a" and two "s"s appear next to each other. seriously, once i removed an s, it let me post. weird, huh?
hi iv read the book twice and im doing the web quest but im dtuck at the prophecy bit. Can anyone help me out? Pls..
TiNx
azteeeeeeg!!! (it means "cooooool"=cool in filipino... :) took me 3 days to firure those damned codes, but it's worth it.
azteeeeeeg!!! (it's a word in filipino that could also mean cool...) took me 3 days to figure those damned codes, but it's worth it.
I've been reading the reader responses with much interest and yes, I've read the book too.
I find the responses almost as interesting as the book.
Fact exists independent of our awareness of it. Truth is the measure of the accuracy of our beliefs.
I would not find it at all surprising that the powers in the past were responsible for the murder of millions of people.
That is not all that unusual even today.
But to tie that murder to the highest symbol of 'Holiness' makes a good case for changing the symbol. If such is the case, then I vote for the Sacred Feminine.
It's cool that there is still debate in magazines and newspapers about this crappy book. So little of real importance is going on in the world, why not argue about a book that claims that Jesus is the founding father of France? Maybe Michael Moore will do a movie on this to clear it up.
What is your problem dvcgarbage?
I've read all four Dan Brown books and they are the best things i have ever read. The DaVinci Code an amazing book written by an amazing author! I can't wait for the next novel from Dan Brown.
You are entitled to your opinion, but I can't help but wonder if you read the DVC code with your eyes closed.
Funny, I wonder the same about so many who are quick to heap such accolades on a poorly written book. There was no real quest or challenge to the story. As has been stated above, the characters were at time all-too-expositional in their dialogue, and then incredibly stupid (apparently unfamiliar with their own area's of expertice.) Dan Brown still has a long way to go when it comes to writing plausible dialogue and crafting believable characters. But I guess that sells fewer books than false controversy.
Of course, I have taken the time to read several different mystery authors and must conclude that the best is still Agatha Christie. The best thing about her is that she did not have an agenda based on false history and unsubstantiatable documents. But she could sure write a whodunnit. As Lavar Burton says "But you don't have to take my word for it..."
I have to agree with dvcgarbage, it was a poorly written book but it is still nice to have such a book to read when you are looking for some cheap entertainment. I also have a comment regarding Mary Magdalene. Defaming Mary Magdalene and describing her as a prostitute was a result of a mistake by pope Gregory the Great in 591. The church rectified the problem in the '60s.
what is the prophecy I have to type in?
Nobody in all the 12 months that this book (da Vinci code) has been out, has even mentioned where Dan Brown got his material from!!! I was actually very surprised to see Dan use the name Sauniere, and then in the web quest he uses the name Marie Denarnaud. THey were both real people and their story can be found in the following book.
The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail
Random House 1982, 1996
Michael Baigent, Richard Leigh & Henry Lincoln
http://www.freemasonrywatch.org/prioryofsion.html
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0440136482/freemasonrywatch/104-6685107-3685504
I personally beleive that Jesus did live, and die just
like the Buddha lived and died. But Jesus was just a
great teacher, like the Buddha was a great teacher. Jesus
never died (maybe fell unconcious), never rose from the
dead and never ascended to heaven - since that is
humanly impossible. Noone else has EVER risen from the
dead and come back to tell us what heaven is really
like. Read the book. I read it 22
years ago, and it changed my thinking entirely.
I got to the end of the challenge where you finally get a second number to phone, but when i asked the operator what the area code was for it was obviously Manhatten New York, The phone number was (212) 782 9932, but Im only sixteen and live in Canada so I can't call because of long distance charges to hear what it says, If anyone has listened to the message could they tell me what it says by emailing what its about to me? my email is scamthecandyman@hotmail.com, thank you so much for your help! i finally finished the entire challenge to find out i couldnt finish! If anyone can help i thank you so much!!!
Cesca,
The whole point of the "gospel" of Jesus Christ is the resurrection. Gospel means Good News. The good news is that, when you die, you won't be dead forever, thanks to Jesus.
But you may not believe that. Just like I don't believe that Jesus is the great grandpa of French Monarchy.
And as for "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail", do a little Googling on that title to learn their agenda. Then you will see why no one wants to mention it. (It's crap!)
Also, since some DVC fans may be interested in unadulterated truth, I recommend a recent article by the ever-lovin' Cecil Adams over at straightdope.com . He has an article about Dan Brown's stilted explanation of "phi." Search the archives.
While you're at it, search the archives for articles on the illuminati, a crack-pot conspiracy theory right up Dan Brown's alley.
Just finished uncover the code. Solved all puzzles, However, had to guess on the seal puzzle. I came up with e pluribus umum, but the Caesar box did not turn out. How do you read the seal? Clockwise counterclockwise What's with the three eyes? What is the letter sequence prior to putting the letters in the box?
Ron Howard is scheduled to make the movie of DVC. Anyone got any ideas as to who should play the key roles?
hi...
just want to ask for help on decoding the gate number one...
pls... i'll really appreciate it!
thanks!
p.s: it's a really great book!
just looked at the hint... already got it, hehe...
thanks anyways!
I SENT THE EMAIL AT THE GATE 3 BUT I HAVEN'T RECEIVED THE ANSWER.WHAT SHOULD I DO?
I finished reading the book about a week ago and I thought that it is a good read. It really lets people re-evaluate what their belief system is and why they believe the way they do. Do we allow other groups and organizations influence us or do we do some honest searching for ourselves. I was raised a "born again" Christian and converted to the L.D.S. church in my early 20's. I am not going to let anyone feel foolish for what they believe is true. but I would like to say that we do need to be careful of 'organized' religons, it doesn't matter what faith or church we belong to, we need to do our thinking, not let church leaders tell us what we should believe. Anyway, great book! I would recommend it.
The LDS perspective is very interesting on this book. They have no problem believing that Christ was married. They do, however, stop at the stuff about the French Monarchy being his offspring and all the unsubstantiated conspiracy theories.
There is a book here: www.miltonrich.com that talks about the mormon view of the evolution of the bible.
if i were to rate dan's books, at the top would be angels and demons, then DVC, Digital Fortress, and Deception Point. Deception Point was fairly predictable unlike the 3 other books.
Excellent Reading.. I have started reading fiction from past 2 years.. and can safely say that this is one of the best I have read in a long time (err.. 2 years is a long time !!!)...
Kudos to Dan Brown for reading this.. I quite literally read the book from start to finish without putting it down.. and since I am an avid eater while reading.. I ate a lot .. and consequently ..( Arghhh !! ).. but I took the room to the men's room and I took it to the dinner table and I took it to the bed (well.. my wife was not too happy about it ! )... and I finished it in the loo while letting out what remained of my indulgent habit during the entire day...
Its a brilliant book.. I am planning on doing a research on 10 fiction writers and drawing comparisons in their writing styles .. is anyone interested in helping out.. write to my email !
I've made all the 2 quests...
Does anyone know where can I find similar quests, that involve rummaging in the Net to decipher riddles?
kleetis:
the three eyes would probably be three "o"-s because you should get 13 letters and 13 + 3 = 16, which has a sqrt so you can make the caesar box.
It was a nice reading but too many riddles to be realistic.I think Angel and deamons was better.
I prefer though Focault's Pendulum by Uberto Eco.
Ihave read only one book, the DaVinci code. Now i got the ILLUMINATI. I try to find if what you are writing is true, and if it is ...Got, how many people are still sleeping.
thank you!
please give me the answer of the third question
Amazing book! One of the best writers i've encountered so far (in line with my favorites James Clavell and Robert Ludlum). Since I've never been to Europe, throughout my reading, I was surfing the net as well to get an accurate visual of the locations he mentioned in the book. I feel I was at the Louvre, Westminster Abbey, Rosslyn Church and all the other locations mentioned. I can't wait to read his other novels. Da Vinci Code is the first Dan Brown book I've read and I heard Angels and Demons are equally fantastic. Congratulations to Dan Brown. Very intelligent writer. He is Robert and Sophie rolled into one.
Help! I can't get past gate three. Another thing, is there a web site wherein I can have answers on how much of the Da Vinci Code is fiction, hearsay and whatever. Is Robert Langdon a real person or fictional character?
I've read all of Dan Brown's Books. I think he's very clever. I was dying for more, so i took the quests. I found this site and was amazed by how many people are doing this. I was also amazed at how many people couldn't get the easy ones. or how many failed to read this site's answers and then begged for help. So, here's your help. for those who want only clues. quest 2: question # 1) her picture is right below the question. 2) it the city where the majority of the story takes place. 3.) the initials are p. o. s. 4.) click on the roman numeral ii at the top of the screen it will give you the answer. 5.) use the hint button. 6.) I hard a hard time picking out which letters were bold. it starts with "is" and ends with "son" see above if you can't figure it out..others have. 7.) tv laywer "perry _____"
8.) look at your book, the spine and the back or look at a dollar bill The first quest is longer so here are the answers. Don't read on if you don't want to know. 1.given name means first name
2.) teh lsat sppuer 3.the louvre has 3 wings its one of them 4.ceasar's box leads to a website and yes you ave to change website to finish. 5. robertlangdon.com > relic-bay.com > swiss bank > fibonacci sequence> call> doubleknight books> venice> robertlangdon.com/secretpage> ankh 11. the parchment is a map for letter placement. Good hunting
Heck no Robert Langdon is not a real person. This book is 100% grade A garbage. Enroll in a real college (NOT a jc) and take a real art history course and you will learn the truth about Leonardo. It is too bad he is the victim of all of this revisionist history. Dan Brown has done the serious scholarly community a genuine disservice by muddying the waters of research with this pablum.
If you believe Dan Brown, then you believe:
a. Jesus is the grandfather of French monarchy.
b. Leonardo was part of a secret sect that is not documented by any reputable sources.
c. The Louvre contains the grail.
d. IM Pei (architect of the Louvre pyramid that does NOT contain 666 window panels) belongs to the same secret sect, in spite of the fact that he calls the miniature pyramid on the floor of the louvre (Dan Brown's grail) a folly. Would he really call the recepticle of all he held dear and holy a folly?
e. The locations and addresses Dan Brown uses in the book are accurate. Hit the streets and find out the truth of this one for yourself.
f. A poorly crafted, slow story with sporadically stupid then hyper-intelligent characters is a "good read".
I would not be so adamantly opposed to this effing idiot's book if he would just remove the "all this stuff is accurate" preface.
And to add even more injustice to the pile, he's getting rich off of lies.
DVC is one of the best books i have ever read,i also finished the code game if antbody needs help or if you just wanna talk mail me at johncheriyan777@hotmail.com
da vinci's code is mind boggling
i dont know how to go to the next stage
the book was one of the best ive ever read.i would be able to put it in the ranks of the lord of the rings one of the greatest books ever, i read it in 5 days not able to even put it down. i need the number the middle of chapter 44 can anyone tell me it
i think this book is the best i have ever read. i may be biased since i'm not religious, but probably tou are all adults, so have more open-minds, just because your christian and the book may cause some problems, doesn't mean you can't like it. (or shouldn't) Dan Brown is one of the most brilliant authors ever!
maybe dvcgarbage is one of the priory of sion..hihihihi...
If Jesus HAD married a woman, for instance Mary Magdalene as presented in TDC, their children would be half-God. Is that even a plausible thought? I am Christian and I appreciate this book - it's brought up a ton of discussion. While I don't agree with all the stances, they definitely made me think, which I think is good. Christians can be way too readily accepting of everything they are told. I just wonder if anyone else has thought about the children issue: would Jesus, perfect and good in every way, join with sinners to create half-gods? It doesn't seem at all right to me.
